AOD Counsellor Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced AOD counsellor to provide recovery-focused support for individuals impacted by alcohol and other drugs.

  • Providing high-quality client-centred AOD treatment and counselling, including forensic clients
  • Supporting relapse prevention, brief interventions, and therapeutic group programs

This is a community outreach role based at our Yarra Junction office with regular travel across the region.

Candidates should ensure they are comfortable with the geographic spread of the region and the travel this involves.

You will be working on-site in the Yarra Ranges, on the lands of the Wurundjeri People.

Your Key Responsibilities

As an AOD counsellor, you will:

  • Draw on a range of modalities, including CBT, ACT, schema therapy, mindfulness, and motivational interviewing
  • Provide 1:1 support, facilitate group work, or connect with local services to ensure seamless care
Essential Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A passion for making a difference in the lives of people affected by AOD use
  • Experience supporting clients with co-occurring mental health concerns
  • A trauma-informed approach to care
  • Skills in therapeutic modalities like CBT, ACT, and motivational interviewing
  • Strong communication, organisation and conflict resolution skills
