Job Description

The Senior Librarian role requires a high-level legal and business research professional to deliver exceptional results in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for curating authoritative resources, conducting high-quality legal research, and ensuring the library collections remain current and aligned to practice group priorities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert, timely legal and commercial research utilizing electronic and manual research tools.
  • Maintain and develop the firm's library collections, including acquisition, licensing, and cataloguing to maximize value for money.
  • Design and deliver targeted training for lawyers and corporate services staff on legal research techniques and database use.
  • Develop current awareness services and bespoke alerts covering legislative change, case-law developments, industry news, and competitor intelligence.
  • Liaise with external networks such as law libraries, professional bodies, and vendors to benchmark services and represent the firm in the broader legal information community.
  • Undertake or manage special projects such as collection audits, digitization programs, or market analysis reports.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you will require:

  • Postgraduate qualification in Library and Information Science (or equivalent) recognized by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA).
  • Minimum 5 years' library and legal research experience within a law firm or comparable legal environment.
  • Demonstrated mastery of Australian and international legal research sources and sophisticated search methodologies.
  • Advanced knowledge of library systems and collaborative technologies; familiarity with AI-assisted research tools desirable.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to communicate complex research findings concisely to partners and lawyers.
  • Experience designing and facilitating training programs for legal professionals and support staff.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the capacity to meet multiple, time-sensitive deadlines in a professional manner.
  • Eligibility for ALIA Associate Membership; ongoing commitment to professional development, legal technology literacy, and industry networking.
