Position Overview

Employment Type: Permanent part-time or casual

Location: Central Office

Remuneration: Social Community Home Care Disability Award Level 3 (pay point dependent on qualifications and relevant experience). Superannuation.

Job Summary

The Counsellor Support Worker's role is to provide support to service users' journey to safety. This involves contributing to the delivery of domestic and family violence support to individuals by answering calls with compassion and facilitating practical needs as directed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Triage calls and take action on client-related tasks such as arranging emergency accommodation and travel.
  • Assist Crisis Intervention Counsellors and the broader team by contributing to referral pathway procedures.
  • Contribute to the safety of service users through the quality, timeliness, and accuracy of work.
Requirements
  • 1+ years of professional experience in the social and community service sector.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  • Confident IT and telephone communication skills with a proven ability to multitask and prioritise effectively.
  • Proven ability to remain calm in sensitive situations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the effects, causes, and dynamics of domestic and family violence.
  • Demonstrated ability to build, maintain, and enhance relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • High level of empathy and cultural awareness when engaging with diverse groups.
  • Positive Notice Blue Card and National Police Check, or willingness to obtain before commencing employment.
  • Committed to attending DVConnect's Central Brisbane Office for all shifts.
  • Must be available to attend mandatory onboarding training and shadow shifts before commencing permanent roster.
  • Valid photo ID.
  • Right to work in Australia.
Desirable
  • Tertiary qualification (or working towards completion) in relevant areas such as social, behavioural, and criminology sciences.
  • Sound knowledge (or willingness to acquire) about Queensland Domestic Violence Legislation.
