Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Manufacturing Process Improvement Specialist to join our team at Cummins.

About the Role:

This position is responsible for leading the planning, designing, and implementation of changes to manufacturing equipment and systems.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Lead projects to create and implement all aspects of manufacturing processes, ensuring safety requirements, manufacturing goals, business goals, and product specifications are met.
  • Apply knowledge of manufacturing principles and practices to improve equipment and processes.
  • Impact work by utilizing continuous improvement tools, following Cummins standards, and leading the development of manufacturing standards and working methods.
  • Communicate with and influence key external stakeholders, business leaders, and functional members.
  • Work with internal and external resources on specific project assignments.
  • Maintain advanced knowledge of manufacturing principles and practices as applied to Cummins.
  • Cultivate relationships and coach key stakeholders.

Drawing Interpretation: Integrate product design and manufacturing equipment engineering drawings to support optimal manufacturing process design and development.

Equipment/Capital Procurement: Select manufacturing equipment meeting Cummins manufacturing specifications and project or program needs.

Manufacturing Analysis Led Design: Use digital tools to model and simulate manufacturing processes, equipment, and performance, making data-driven decisions before changes are made and driving continuous improvements.

Manufacturing Knowledge: Demonstrate knowledge of manufacturing by correctly implementing changes in current processes, equipment, and applications to meet function needs and contribute to continuous improvement.

Process Documentation: Produce written manufacturing procedures in proper sequence followed correctly by approved stakeholders to establish continuity in processes and standardization.

Tool and Fixture Design: Select work-piece-holding devices capable of effectively holding parts and products during manufacturing, securing their position to meet functional requirements.

Value Differences: Recognize the value different perspectives and cultures bring to an organization.

Continuous Process Improvement: Identify areas where processes can be improved by properly implementing process improvement and waste reduction methodologies to reduce process cost and improve quality in current manufacturing processes.

Ergonomics Process and Workplace Design: Design, create, or adapt processes and workstations by implementing ergonomic controls through application of Cummins ergonomic design guidelines to reduce risk and deliver ergonomically designed work.

Problem Solving: Solve problems and mentor others on effective problem solving by using systematic analysis process, leveraging industry standard methodologies to create problem traceability, determine assignable cause, implement robust solutions, identify systemic root causes, and ensure actions to prevent problem reoccurrence are implemented.

Workstation Design: Design operator workstations that are safe, healthy, and ergonomic while accounting for cost, quality, and delivery to contribute to efficient work environment.

Education, Licenses, Certifications:

A college, university, or degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) or related field, or equivalent experience required. This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience:

An intermediate level of relevant work experience required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the continual safety improvement of Brisbane MRC with a fresh set of eyes – observe, discuss, and report.
  • Support Brisbane MRC with emerging tooling issues (CMES, DC Tools, ManTA, etc.).
  • Support Brisbane MRC with tooling design to improve safety and efficiency.
  • Support Brisbane MRC by managing the EASE database and change requests.
  • Support Brisbane MRC by managing CMES (Cummins Manufacturing Execution System) maintenance and change requests.
  • Support emerging ME projects as required throughout the year to improve site capability and efficiency.
