Senior Research Operations Manager
Job OverviewThe Senior Research Operations Manager is a leadership role responsible for the safe and efficient operation of advanced laboratories.
This position ensures the ongoing functionality and optimization of specialized equipment, safety systems, technical support, and stakeholder coordination across multiple laboratories.
- Manage day-to-day operations of advanced laboratories
- Maintain and service highly specialized equipment such as UHV, Dilution Fridges, Cryogenic Systems, MBE, and STM instrumentation
- Manage critical infrastructure including gases, cooling systems, liquid nitrogen, power, and waste streams
- Lead laboratory safety programs and coordinate WHS documentation and safety committee activities
- Drive continuous safety improvement across all lab and facility operations
- Ensure optimal equipment uptime through preventative maintenance and system upgrades
- Design and implement technical modifications for research systems
- Supervise contractors, vendors, and service providers
- Manage procurement, inventory, and stock control of laboratory consumables
- Support IT-related systems, data backup, and system recovery protocols in the labs
- Provide expert technical advice to researchers on experimental design and system configuration
- Champion a culture of safety, excellence, and innovation in lab operations
Main Accountabilities:
- Operations Management: Manage day-to-day operations of advanced laboratories
- Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and service highly specialized equipment
- Critical Infrastructure Management: Manage critical infrastructure including gases, cooling systems, and power
- Safety Leadership: Lead laboratory safety programs and coordinate WHS documentation and safety committee activities
To be successful in this role, you will require:
- A strong background in laboratory operations or a related field
- Excellent leadership and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience with laboratory safety protocols and procedures
