Job Description

Hume City Council is seeking a skilled Communications Officer to join our Digital Transformation Program. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in crafting and delivering compelling messages, managing communication channels, and fostering a positive communication culture throughout the program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide consultancy to the Program Director and various areas of Council to ensure that strategic communication principles and plans are applied.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive communication plans for the program, aligning communication strategies with change management objectives.
  • Champion the needs of the program, impacted staff, and stakeholders to ensure effective and tailored communications and engagement.
  • Monitor and improve the performance of communication activities against strategic priorities and Transformation objectives.
  • Identify proactive communications opportunities to provide tailored and targeted information for internal staff impacted by the changes from the digital program.
  • Contribute to the development of high-level narratives, ensuring strong and consistent key messaging across all communications activities.

Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualifications and/or extensive demonstrated experience in communications, public relations, or marketing or a similar field.
  • Ability to plan, research, develop, implement, and evaluate communications strategies.
  • Demonstrated significant experience in the planning, development, execution, and evaluation of integrated communications strategies.
  • Ability to gain cooperation and assistance from people with diverse backgrounds and cultures, both within and external to the organisation.
  • Specialist written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to write in a clear, concise, and understandable manner as appropriate for multiple formats.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines to a high standard of accuracy and consistency.
  • A strong understanding of local, state, and federal government and experience working in a political environment.
