News Reporter Position

About the role:

We are seeking a skilled news reporter to join our team in Canberra. Working in a regional newsroom presents an opportunity to take ownership of your market and report on various topics, such as environment, sport, politics, and more.

Reporting to the Chief of Staff, you will be responsible for researching, compiling, and producing high-quality news stories for weekday news bulletins. You'll liaise with editors and camera operators to ensure our bulletins meet deadline and are of the highest standards. This is a full-time position, working Monday - Friday.

About the ideal candidate:

  • A university qualification in journalism with at least one year's experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of how to compile a ratings-winning bulletin
  • Knowledge of local, national, and international news stories affecting the community
  • Demonstrated understanding and working knowledge of media law
  • Accuracy and excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to meet deadlines through effective time management
  • Capacity to operate in a team environment, contributing positively to working relationships
  • Ability to identify story opportunities and operate with initiative and flexibility
  • Positive work ethic and willingness to learn new systems and processes
