Job Description:

This is a fantastic opportunity to kick-start your career in town planning. As a cadet, you will work closely with an experienced team to gain hands-on experience while studying towards a recognized planning qualification.

You will be responsible for assessing planning applications, providing advice to developers and the public, and supporting the enforcement and development of planning controls under the local planning scheme and relevant legislation.

This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about sustainable development, community engagement, and making a real impact.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Acknowledge and interpret various statutory provisions and policies within the Local Government Act and other related acts
  • Provide high-quality responses to applicant inquiries regarding zoning amendments, use permits, and building codes
  • Collaborate with planners, engineers, architects, and other stakeholders to evaluate plans for consistency with adopted city policies
  • Conduct site visits to inspect projects and verify compliance with approved plans and regulations
Requirements:
  • Current or prospective enrollment in a recognized town planning course
  • A genuine interest in urban development and community planning
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Commitment to customer service and confidentiality
  • Basic knowledge of planning legislation and procedures
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer systems
  • A current driver's license and willingness to obtain a Police Check

About This Opportunity:

This two-year contract provides an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience in town planning while working towards a recognized qualification. You will be part of a supportive team that values collaboration and continuous learning.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to apply for the Regional Planning Cadet Program, which provides funding for tuition fees associated with a planning course at an Australian tertiary institution.
