Research Scientist Position

We are seeking an accomplished research scientist to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual with expertise in ultrasonic non-destructive evaluation.

About the Role

This position involves leading and contributing to cutting-edge research projects, collaborating with industry partners, and supervising students. You will be responsible for investigating the capabilities of PAUT and MAUT NDT techniques to characterise damage in composite repairs due to environmental degradation and mechanical loading.

  • Key Responsibilities:

    • Research: Determine the capabilities of PAUT and MAUT to detect and characterise damage in composite repairs, collaborate with project partners at the University of Western Australia and other institutions, produce high-quality research outputs, seek and manage research funding, publish in reputable journals, utilise best practice research methodologies, and participate in project discussions.

    • Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise students, provide performance feedback and training, resolve conflicts, and ensure the ethical conduct of research.

    • Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • PhD in the field of ultrasonic non-destructive evaluation.

  • An emerging profile in research in the discipline area.

  • Demonstrated expert knowledge in analytical and experimental ultrasonics.

  • Good understanding of phased array ultrasonic testing.

  • Good understanding of machine learning methods used in NDT.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively and establish a rapport and good working relationships with students, staff, and industry partners.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team.

  • An effective ability to time manage and prioritise demands.

  • High attention to detail and a methodical but expeditious approach to research work.

The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia, criminal check, education check, mandatory immunisations, etc.
