Job Description:

Our organisation seeks compassionate volunteers to support elderly individuals in residential aged care facilities or their own homes as part of the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme.

The role involves engaging in social interaction, connection and conversation to bring joy and pleasure to residents' lives. Volunteers must commit at least one hour every fortnight on an ongoing basis to develop a rapport and trust with the resident.

This is a flexible role with no set time or day required, as long as a fortnightly visit can be maintained. Ideal candidates are reliable, patient and compassionate individuals with a positive attitude towards life who can dedicate some time to conversation.

We require a volunteer to provide social support and friendship to an older man living in a residential aged care home in Sans Souci. He has interests in business, sports, marketing and enjoys doing crosswords. Regular visits would greatly reduce his feelings of loneliness and isolation.

Key responsibilities:

  • Visit and engage with the resident in a friendly and approachable manner
  • Listen actively and respond sensitively to the resident's needs and concerns
  • Encourage the resident to share their thoughts, experiences and interests
  • Respect the resident's boundaries and confidentiality
  • Record any notable conversations or interactions (optional)

Requirements:

  • Ability to commit to regular fortnightly visits

  • Empathy and understanding of the challenges faced by older adults
  • Flexibility and adaptability
