Role Overview

The Harm Reduction Coordinator plays a pivotal role in mitigating harm and promoting health among individuals who engage in high-risk drug use behaviors.

This position involves overseeing outreach services, staff development, and service expansion to ensure access to essential resources, including sterile injecting equipment, naloxone, and health education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish collaborative relationships with healthcare providers and stakeholders to develop client referral pathways.
  • Engage with relevant networks and communities of practice to stay informed about best practices and emerging trends.
  • Provide leadership, supervision, and support to harm reduction staff to optimize their performance and well-being.
  • Deliver targeted outreach services, providing education on safer drug use practices, safe sex protocols, and proper disposal methods, as well as supplying naloxone and offering health advice.

Requirements

  • Relevant qualifications or experience in health, welfare, community services, or substance abuse sectors.
  • Current Community Overdose Prevention Education Certificate and eligibility for the Pharmacy Programs Administrator portal to provide naloxone through take-home programs.
  • Eligibility for an NSP Outreach Worker Card from the Victorian Department of Health.
  • Current Victorian Driver's Licence.
  • Comprehensive understanding of issues affecting individuals struggling with alcohol and other drugs, as well as their families and the broader community.
