About the Opportunity

Port Macquarie Hastings Council is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our Parks and Open Space team as a trainee. As a trainee, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in maintaining our public open spaces, including parks, reserves, sports fields, and cemeteries.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain parks, reserves, sports fields, and cemeteries to a high standard
  • Undertake mowing, beach, tree, and garden maintenance
  • Perform ground maintenance activities associated with open spaces
  • Maintain recreational assets and infrastructure
  • Identify and treat pests, diseases, and weeds that impact on plant/turf health
  • Collect litter from open spaces
  • Assist with minor construction works
What We're Looking For
  • A willingness to work and learn on the job
  • A genuine interest in upkeeping grounds and plants
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • A focus on working safely, both for yourself and others
  • Able to commit to study requirements and completion of all training in a timely and organised manner
  • A current driver's license (Red P's or more)

Remuneration and Benefits

Employment type: Full-time role (38 hours per week with 9-day fortnight)

Weekly starting salary $439 to $809 (depending on your highest year of schooling completed and number years since you finished school)

Allowances: Adverse working conditions 1

You must be an Australian/NZ citizen or an Australian Permanent Resident; no visa or work permit support can be provided for this role
