About the Role

The DI Data Product Owner plays a critical role in the Digital Insurer program, enabling the realization of the data vision and requirements for design and build. This position ensures that Data Engineering and Technology squads within the program are set up for success by eliciting, documenting, and providing clear requirements to the squads, and acts as a representative for business stakeholders with knowledge of their respective areas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyzing and understanding business requirements, and reviewing/producing technical and business specifications.
  • Understanding the importance of strategic alignment between business and technology goals and seeking to achieve this in requirements gathering/squad delivery.
  • Supporting the discovery and delivery squads with prioritization of backlog tasks, aligned with business needs and outcomes while understanding constraints and dependencies.
  • Ensuring regulatory and statutory requirements are met as a priority and addressing risks.
  • Preparing materials to ensure effective communication of requirements and/or to explain future changes to the landscape.
  • Resolving blockers quickly and contributing to proactive planning.
  • Building rapport with business SMEs to ensure cohesion between the program and business as usual activities.
  • Working with architects and DET teams to ensure that reference and master data roadmaps are consistently updated in line with changing business needs.
  • Driving decisions aligned to the North Star principles which require radical simplification.
  • Understanding Suncorp future state data architecture and tooling and driving data transformation, simplification (tooling & Environments) and value for the business.
  • Driving the right outcomes and trade-offs between simplification and business regulatory & business value requirements.
  • Understanding impacts of pathway, prioritization, and trade-offs across a complex landscape of business and technology data needs.
  • Ensuring critical focus on regulatory business requirements, related to data & reporting, are met through the design & decision-making processes of the program.
  • Supporting Data Stewards and Governance roles in ensuring that data maturity standards are upheld.
  • Acting as a key conduit between the business and Data & Enterprise Technology fostering a strong sense of collaboration.
  • Modeling team behaviors to deliver results and support others.
  • Contributing to a team that prospers from diversity of ideas and approach and celebrates inclusivity.
  • Contributing to an environment where safety and wellbeing is prioritized and actioned and people are motivated towards meaningful work and common goals.
About You
  • Relevant tertiary qualification (Business, Commerce, Technology) desirable.
  • Significant experience contributing to or preparing business requirements documents.
  • Significant experience working amongst technical teams to communicate requirements and support squads through delivery.
  • Significant experience supporting technical business analysts to translate business requirements to technical, signing off requirements.
  • Significant experience in the Insurance industry with knowledge of corporate operations.
  • Experience developing presentation materials to simplify the message of a technical concept.
  • Some experience collaborating with data & analytics teams with knowledge of Consumer, Commercial or Personal Injury Insurance.
  • Some experience organizing & facilitating engagement sessions with stakeholders.
  • Some experience working under momentum model or agile ways of working.
  • Some experience working on data transformation programs.
  • Knowledge of ETL technologies and integration from data warehouses to 3rd party Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) technologies – desirable.
