Job Description:

Avant Mutual is looking for a Legal Counsel to join their team on a 12-month, fixed-term contract. The role can be based in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth or Adelaide with a hybrid working arrangement.

The Legal Counsel will assist the Senior Legal Counsel with corporate, commercial and financial services legal advice and governance advice to all of Avant's businesses. They will undertake reviews of marketing material to ensure legal compliance, provide corporate legal advice, draft, review and negotiate contracts, and advise on insurance products and statutory interpretation.

The key responsibilities include undertaking reviews of marketing material, providing corporate legal advice, drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts, advising on insurance products and statutory interpretation, and supporting senior lawyers in litigation cases.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • ">
  • Tertiary qualifications (LLB or equivalent)">
  • Current NSW (or other Australian State) Legal Practitioner Practising Certificate – mandatory">
  • Minimum 3 years' post qualification experience in a mid or top-tier firm">
  • Private practice experience in providing commercial legal advice">
  • Previous experience working in an insurance and/or Australian financial services environment (beneficial)">
  • A pragmatic and commercial focus, including understanding of the commercial environment of the general insurance market">
  • Highly developed stakeholder and people management skills">
  • High level of written and spoken language skills">
