A Medical Officer plays a critical role in providing primary medical care to patients. This position requires delivering high-quality care that meets professional standards, legislation, and Defence Policies and Procedures.

About the Role

In this position, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team working towards the shared purpose of achieving and maintaining the health and wellbeing of Defence members. You will play an integral role in assessing Defence personnel for fitness for duty and in the provision of care that will support the health and wellbeing of members pre and post deployments.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • You will provide medical technical advice to the Joint Health Unit (JHU) Commanding Officer (CO), Joint Health Command (JHC) Health Centre Manager and Commanders of units.
  • You will work closely with a Team of Senior Medical Officers and uniformed colleagues to deliver quality healthcare services.
  • You may be required to provide services in either an outpatient setting or inpatient care setting within a ward.

About ADF Health Services

We partner with Bupa to provide integrated healthcare services to Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel across Australia.

This includes providing defence-ready clinical and support staff across 45+ on-base locations, ensuring that ADF personnel have access to quality on-site medical care.

About Cairns

Cairns Health Centre is located at HMAS Cairns, on the northern shore of Trinity Inlet and close to the CBD of Cairns.

The base is home to approximately 1000 Navy and civilian personnel providing primary medical, underwater medicine, dental, nursing, and mental health services.

In this role, you will work Monday 0730 - 1600.

What We're Looking For

We are seeking an experienced medical professional with solid foundations as a General Practitioner.

You should have a friendly and professional manner which automatically puts patients at ease and take pride in your ability to inspire trust from both your patients and colleagues alike.

You should also be a respectful and professional person who demonstrates exceptional moral values in everything you do.

You will be passionate about providing clinical services and working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to support delivery of the highest standard of care to patients.

Key Requirements
  • The highest levels of personal integrity and ethical behaviour.
  • Current unconditional and unrestricted registration as a Medical Practitioner, General in Australia with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) OR, Fellowship of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (FACRRM) OR Vocational Registration.
  • Minimum of 2 years full-time post graduate general practitioner experience in a general practice setting within the last 5 years (or part-time equivalent).
  • Recent participation in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activities in accordance with AHPRA.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (HLTAID009) certification.
  • You must be an Australian Citizen to obtain the required Baseline Security Clearance for this role.
