You will play a crucial role in our histology laboratory as our Specimen Processing Expert. Your primary responsibility will be the accurate grossing and processing of non-complex specimens and tissue in accordance with RCPA cut-up guidelines, maintaining high-quality standards, and meeting performance targets.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Ensuring specimen reception accuracy by checking order, case prioritization, billing, referring doctor details, labeling, and entering patient information.
- Preparation of equipment for daily operations.
- Detailed clinical note-taking and macroscopic description.
- High-quality cut-up of non-complex specimens in line with protocols.
- Quality checks on entered information by specimen reception (order, case prioritization, patient details).
- Referral of complex cases or those beyond training to Registrar/senior staff.
- Notifying supervisors about problems/questions regarding specimen cut-up.
- Maintenance and troubleshooting of tissue processors according to manuals.
- Ongoing education and laboratory process improvement.
To excel in this role, you should possess:
- A degree in science, applied science, medical technology, or at least 2 years relevant experience in Histology.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to exercise initiative while maintaining interpersonal sensitivity.
- Effective task prioritization and delegation.
- Strong time management and attention to detail skills.
- In-depth understanding of laboratory operations and their impact on other areas of the practice.
This position comes with an estimated salary range of $80,000-$110,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications. We offer a competitive benefits package and opportunities for professional growth and development.
