This is a senior commercial legal role within the in-house legal team of a major Victorian government department. The ideal candidate will have at least 4 years post-admission experience and be able to work independently on complex legal issues, provide authoritative advice, and communicate effectively with internal stakeholders.

Job Description

The team provides legal advice on a wide range of commercial and ICT matters, including major procurements, high-value projects, outsourcing arrangements, technology, privacy, data and cyber security, real estate, employment, IP, intergovernmental agreements, policy, law reform, and program delivery. You will join a collaborative in-house legal team advising senior executives and ministerial offices on complex legal matters with whole-of-government reach.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide high-level legal advice on complex procurement and contractual issues, including advice related to State Purchase Contracts and public tenders.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a range of commercial and ICT-related agreements.
  • Advise on privacy, data governance, cyber security, employment, and intergovernmental agreements.
  • Deliver strategic legal support to senior stakeholders and contribute to ministerial briefings and decision-making.
Requirements:
  • At least 4 years post-admission experience gained in a private practice, in-house, or public sector environment.
  • The ability to work independently on complex legal issues, provide authoritative advice, and communicate effectively with internal stakeholders.
  • Experience or an interest in technology, data, cyber, or privacy issues.
  • Excellent drafting, analytical, and research skills.
