Job Description

As a Census Operations Manager, you will play a vital role in ensuring the success of our operations in regional and remote areas. You will be responsible for coordinating and managing the operations in your area of responsibility, using your local knowledge and connections to build strong relationships with community leaders and stakeholders.

You will lead small teams responsible for the Census collection activities within your area, providing project management support and administrative assistance as needed. Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Recruiting, training, and managing a team of field staff
  • Developing, updating, and reviewing work plans for your area of responsibility
  • Connecting with the community, establishing networks, and maintaining those relationships
  • Promoting participation in the Census within the community
  • Working collaboratively with other Census and ABS staff in your area

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following skills and qualifications:

  • Proven ability to communicate and develop relationships with people in the workplace and community
  • Capability to work independently, prioritize tasks with limited guidance, and make decisions independently
  • Strong project management skills, particularly in an operational setting
  • Leading or managing a team, including remote teams, in a busy, high-volume environment with tight deadlines
  • Skills in people management, including recruitment, training, and implementing WHS practices within a team
