Job Title:

Financial Performance Specialist

Drive strategic financial performance and deliver impactful budget management in a forward-thinking local government organisation. Partnering with Public Sector People, we are seeking a motivated and detail-driven Financial Performance Specialist to join our team.
This role provides expert support in financial planning, forecasting and reporting, while fostering strong relationships with operational teams across the organisation.
You will deliver meaningful business insights, assist with budget development and performance analysis, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance financial decision-making and service delivery.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare monthly journal reclassifications across projects and general ledger accounts.
  • Prepare timely and accurate financial reports and quarterly budget reviews.
  • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of Council's annual budget, and fees and charges.
  • Support staff across the council with budget-related training and expert advice on financial systems.
  • Analyse financial data to inform decision-making and drive business efficiency.
  • Implement cost allocation, performance measurement, and continuous improvement practices.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to provide strategic advice and improve financial literacy.
  • Maintain key registers, including Restricted Assets and Unspent Grants.
Requirements:
  • Degree in accounting, commerce, economics or a related discipline.
  • CA/CPA status (or working towards) or equivalent professional experience.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to engage effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Proficient in financial systems, advanced Excel skills, and internal controls.
  • Strong analytical, reconciliation and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and discretion in handling confidential information.
  • A commitment to customer-focused service delivery within a collaborative team environment.
