Executive Director - Strategic Legal Leadership

The Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned and ambitious legal leader to shape the strategic direction of a rapidly growing international business.

As Executive Director, you will provide comprehensive legal support and advice on all commercial matters affecting the global life insurance distribution business.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing broad legal support across corporate transactions, commercial agreements, and strategic partnerships, ensuring alignment with the business' risk appetite.
  • Playing a key role in strategic transactions, supporting the business in capital raisings, M&A activity, international expansion plans, and other business initiatives.
  • Advising the Board and executive team on governance frameworks, statutory obligations, and regulatory compliance, as well as managing statutory filings and facilitating the running of the Board and committee meetings/operations.
  • Working closely with senior stakeholders to mitigate legal and regulatory risks across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Liaising with external counsel to oversee the management of any dispute matters.
  • Shaping and embedding a high-performing, proactive, and commercially focused legal function within a dynamic, growth-oriented international enterprise.

Ideal Candidate

  • Admitted as a Solicitor in Australia or New Zealand.
  • 10-15 years PAE with broad generalist experience covering commercial, corporate, governance, and risk management matters.
  • Experience working in financial services, ideally life insurance would be highly desirable.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with a pragmatic approach.
  • Able to adapt to change and thrive in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment.
