Key Responsibilities

  • Use a variety of equipment and tactics to achieve mission objectives
  • Provide security for Army units and vital assets
  • Conduct humanitarian assistance missions and international training, advise, and assist missions
Training and Progression

You will undergo Initial Employment Training (IET) to learn the skills and knowledge required for this role. You will be trained to use high-tech weapons, including the EF88 AUSTEYR rifle, F89 Light Support Weapon, and M18A1 Claymore.

As your career progresses, you may have the opportunity to specialize in areas such as driving, vehicle crew commanding, section leading, or mortaring.

Working with the Australian Defence Force

You will be part of the Royal Australian Infantry Corps (RAInf) and will be posted to one of the seven battalions of the Royal Australian Regiment. Each battalion has a dedicated unit role, including Armoured Infantry, Amphibious, Littoral, or Motorised Infantry.

You will be responsible for your own security and the maintenance of your fighting capability at all times. This is a challenging role that requires physical and mental strength, as well as the ability to adapt to unfamiliar situations and environments.
