  • Respond to inquiries and interact with the public, veterinarians, government agencies, etc., to ensure smooth operations
  • Maintain high standards of hygiene and adhere to health and safety protocols
  • Assist in training and managing volunteers
  • Keep detailed records, including patient files and care instructions; perform data entry and record analysis
  • Rescue and transport wildlife
  • Assist in designing, constructing, and maintaining enclosures

  • Collaborate with other organizations and stay updated on current practices

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of post-secondary studies in Biological Sciences, Animal Health Care, or a related field; Bachelor's degree preferred
  • At least 2 years of wildlife rehabilitation or husbandry experience
  • Basic rehabilitation skills certification from a provincial or international body; advanced skills preferred; knowledge of IWRC/NWRA standards
  • Experience caring for small to medium wild mammals and birds, including raptors, songbirds, waterfowl, seabirds, deer, raccoons, squirrels, seals
  • Knowledge of species' natural history, identification, and behavior; familiarity with provincial and federal wildlife regulations and permits
  • Ability to handle demanding workloads and long hours
  • Availability to work all shifts assigned, including weekends and statutory holidays
  • Ability to work outdoors in various conditions
  • Comfort working with hazardous conditions, parasites, zoonoses, dangerous animals, and chemicals
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and be vaccinated for tetanus (rabies preferred)
  • Ability to respond to emergencies on short notice
  • Strong teamwork skills and work ethic
  • Excellent communication skills, including public speaking and phone etiquette
  • Good physical stamina and health
  • Intermediate computer skills
  • Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle daily
