Business Development and Risk Management Role

This position is responsible for generating new business opportunities and retaining existing clients while maintaining a profitable portfolio of underwriting risk. The successful candidate will effectively market our products and services to a network of producers, developing long-term relationships that add value to our broker and customer relationships.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, negotiating pricing, terms and conditions, and implementing creative underwriting strategies to optimize net retentions that balance both customer and company needs.
  • Coordinate account team resources to provide excellent and responsive services that enhance our broker and customer relationships.
  • Collaborate with Account Engineers to review renewal and new business opportunities, ensuring proper risk identification, analysis, and assessment to drive the development and growth of a profitable portfolio of business.

Primary relationships are with Brokers and reinsurers for insurance-related issues. Meeting specific profit, production, and retention goals as developed in consultation with District management is crucial. Establish multiple business contacts, implementing an effective program of calls averaging 10 face-to-face visits per month to maintain high visibility. Travel is required for marketing, including out-of-state travel, as well as training.

Pre-qualification of new risks is essential, based on acceptability today and its future potential. This involves thorough analysis of the broker submission, desired pricing, terms and conditions, financial condition, adequacy of reported values, and loss experience.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2-5 years' industry experience (broker/insurance company) as Underwriter for commercial property accounts of varying occupancies and sizes.
  • Demonstrated skills in oral and written communication, collaboration, attention to detail, time management, analysis, decision-making, problem-solving, sales/negotiation/presentation, and leadership, as well as the ability to establish a network of property producers and industry contacts.
