About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated English teacher to join our team as the Head of English at Frederick Irwin Anglican School. This is a full-time position that will commence in Term 1, 2025.

The successful candidate will provide creative and effective leadership to the English department, overseeing the development and supervision of the curriculum and the quality of teaching and learning. They will also be responsible for managing the School Curriculum and Standards Authority approved courses, including effective teaching of correct course content, assessment, moderation, and attendance at meetings as required.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Education or a degree qualification supported by a Post Graduate Diploma of Education, and current registration as a teacher with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia. They will also possess excellent knowledge and understanding of contemporary pastoral issues in the School, local community, and wider society.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide vision and leadership for the English department to implement the School's vision and strategy as a driver of 21st Century learning.
  • Enable and support teaching, learning, research, and administration by managing and integrating services in information management and technology.
  • Be an exemplary teacher within their own subject and lead educators and support staff.
  • Demonstrate excellent knowledge and understanding of contemporary pastoral issues in the School, local community, and wider society.
  • Demonstrate excellent administrative and organisational skills, including strong written and verbal communication skills and effective time management.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, being inclusive, approachable, a good listener, and having the capacity to establish and maintain positive relationships with staff, students, parents, and carers.
  • Ensure the effective teaching/learning programme for all subjects taught in English in the Secondary section of the School.
  • Determine and maintain resources required for the effective teaching of subjects under their jurisdiction.
  • In close collaboration with the Business Manager, prepare the annual budget for the Department and manage that budget.
  • Develop and manage an effective assessment programme, including preparation and marking of examination papers, checking, and authorisation of student results and grades prior to reporting for subjects under their jurisdiction.
  • Monitor student performance in subjects under their jurisdiction to ensure all students are achieving their potential.
