Support Service Specialist

Our team is seeking a Support Service Specialist to provide rapid, practical psychosocial support to individuals experiencing a suicidal crisis or who have attempted suicide.

This role involves delivering intensive, specialised support across various regions, focusing on engaging men, including Aboriginal men, through culturally safe and responsive services.

The Support Service Specialist works alongside Peer Workers to support individuals and their families, creating individualized case plans and reviewing progression and safety as required.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Conducting initial intake and safety planning for clients
  • Providing ongoing support sessions with clients and reviewing progression and safety
  • Liaising with other support services and organisations to coordinate case plan requirements
  • Developing group programs to support practical client needs
  • Assisting clients in transitioning out of the service into independence or other services
  • Maintaining accurate documentation completion and updating according to organisational protocols

Key qualifications include:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or significant relevant work experience
  • A sound understanding of mental health, suicidality, mental health systems, and recovery-oriented practice
  • Experience working within a peer workforce, trauma-informed, recovery-oriented practice, and valuing lived experience
  • A sound knowledge of crisis intervention services and steps to engage individuals into these services
  • Case management experience
  • Proficiency in using Windows-based computer systems
  • A valid NSW Driver's License and First Aid Certificate
