Family Liaison Practitioner

This is an exciting opportunity to join a mental health services and learning disability team. We are looking for a pleasant, organized, and efficient individual who will be committed to leading on the provision of support to carers and families.

In this role, you will require excellent communication skills and have the initiative to work independently at times.

A key aspect of the Trust's service is ensuring that our service users and their families receive the best possible care. This post provides a unique opportunity to join an innovative developing service.

You will be supporting families and loved ones through the difficult process of a serious investigation into a patient safety or a complex complaint which has occurred within our service.

This includes day-to-day management of interactions between the family and the investigating officer, ensuring that families are treated appropriately, professionally, and with respect for their needs.

Responsibilities include implementing the Trust strategy, supporting relatives in complex complaints and serious incidents/deaths, aiding the Patient Safety Team in serious incidents and Coroners cases, assisting with carer crisis support, and educating and supporting staff to recognize carers as partners in care.

Flexible working will be considered for the right person. The role will be based at Unit 9 in Sleaford with the Experience of Care team.

  • Deliver highly specialist interventions to support the implementation of National guidance in relation to working with Carers and Families.
  • Provide training for senior managers, team leaders, and ward staff on effectively working with Carers and Families.
  • Lead on Quality Improvement initiatives involving carers and relatives.
  • Liaise with third-party stakeholders such as Carers First and Carers Trust to develop reliable working relationships.
  • Develop Carer and Staff Education programmes across the Trust.
  • Deliver family therapy with other practitioners when appropriate.
  • Provide clinical support and direction to identified carer leads across the Trust.
  • Meet regularly with staff to ensure effective communication of key issues, plans, and actions.
  • Ensure that loved ones, patients, carers, and staff continue to be supported after an investigation closes.

Person Specification:

Qualifications should include a Mental Health/Learning Disability clinical qualification with relevant professional registration (NMC, HCPC), educated to degree level or equivalent experience demonstrable through level of competence and knowledge, evidence of specialized continued professional training in clinical practice, qualification in Health Service Management and/or Leadership, and trained in Meriden Family Therapy.

Experience should include dealing with complex mental health conditions, teaching large groups of staff, delivering Carer and Family-related staff training Programmes, and establishing effective working relationships with senior managers and executives.
