Be part of a transformative initiative to safeguard one of Australia's vital natural resources for generations to come.

We are looking for dedicated individuals eager to engage in a comprehensive water reform initiative aimed at addressing climate change impacts, fulfilling community and industry requirements, and enhancing water accessibility for First Nations communities.

The Murray-Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) operates as an autonomous government entity that collaborates with Basin governments to oversee the water resources of the Murray-Darling Basin in the national interest. Established under the Water Act 2007, the MDBA serves as an independent agency grounded in expertise.

The MDBA's mission is to foster a thriving Basin that benefits all Australians. The Murray-Darling Basin is home to a diverse array of unique natural environments, essential to Australia's economy and inhabited by 2.3 million Australians, including individuals from over 50 First Nations. Our approach to managing the Basin as an interconnected system, judiciously managing water resources, and ensuring its preservation for future generations is articulated in the Murray-Darling Basin Plan.

Available Positions

We currently have two openings for Senior Policy Officers within our Climate Adaptation and Decision-making Framework teams.

As a Senior Policy Officer, your role will involve conducting and executing high-level policy research and providing insights on emerging opportunities and challenges related to the Basin Plan Review. These positions will require close collaboration with various sectors of the Basin Plan Review Division, the MDBA, other Australian Government agencies, Basin States, and broader stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research and policy analysis on diverse water management topics, offering recommendations for addressing complex challenges.
  • Communicate and advocate for decisions and recommendations, clarifying the connection between organizational objectives and operational tasks.
  • Coordinate and achieve team objectives, strategies, and work plans while considering the long-term implications of your work on broader outcomes.
  • Assist in preparing briefing materials, correspondence, submissions, contracts, and other policy or operational documents.

What We Offer:

  • An opportunity to engage in projects that contribute to the preservation of one of Australia's essential natural resources for future generations.
  • A dynamic work environment at the MDBA where you will tackle a variety of stimulating and meaningful challenges.
