Diagnostic Serology Role

We are seeking a skilled Diagnostic Serology Specialist to join our team at the Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness (ACDP) facility in Geelong.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the diagnosis of emergency animal diseases and routine surveillance, contributing to the overall goal of protecting Australia's animals and people from infectious diseases.

  • Deliver quality-assured laboratory diagnostic services, including disease surveillance testing for exotic and infectious diseases of veterinary significance.
  • Work closely with colleagues, managers, and clients to ensure effective information transfer under a quality management framework.
  • Assist other diagnostic teams within the program as required.
Key Responsibilities
  • Work in a microbiologically secure laboratory as part of a multi-disciplinary team, delivering quality assured diagnostic testing services for viral pathogens and emergency animal diseases.
  • Contribute to quality assurance requirements, including reporting tests, maintaining records, and proficiency testing.
  • Undertake tasks under technical direction, planning ahead to meet diagnostic testing demands.
  • Provide oral and written advice upon request to the Serology Team Leader, Technical Manager, and Veterinary Investigation Team.
  • Complete assigned tasks in a timely and professional manner, maintaining awareness of team priorities and flexibility to assist workflow as required.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues on assigned activities, independently testing possible solutions to resolve identified problems.
Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree or equivalent relevant work experience in Biological Sciences or a related discipline.
  • Experience conducting and coordinating laboratory-based experiments or tests, with demonstrated ability to plan and schedule laboratory workflow.
  • Demonstrated ability to address complex issues in a timely and technically sound manner.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including documentation of results and effective communication with stakeholders.
