About the Role

Mission Australia is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Peer Advocate to join our team. As a Peer Advocate, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals living with severe and persistent mental health issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate small group capacity building activities for clients
  • Strengthen recovery-oriented approaches
  • Support clients to prepare for NDIS
  • Undertake initial contact with clients
  • Engage participants to develop honest and trusting relationships
  • Learn about each client's interests and relationships to create a tailored approach
  • Utilize lived expertise skills to support clients with their recovery journey
  • Facilitate small peer-led support groups
  • Liaison with the team and stakeholders to provide appropriate supports for clients
  • Support the creation of individual recovery and safety plans with clients and recovery coordinators
  • Ensure documentation is completed and updated in line with Mission Australia protocols
Requirements for Success
  • Personal lived experience of mental illness or psychological distress and professional experience working from this expertise
  • Experience working collaboratively with lived experience, clinical, and non-clinical teams
  • Minimum Certificate IV in mental health Peer Work or willingness to obtain
  • Knowledge of community activities, programs, and networks in the local community
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective partnerships
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, strong administrative skills, and proficient use of technology
  • Demonstrated professional approach to the role, including maintaining professional boundaries
  • Full driver's license with no restrictions
