Peer Advocate

Mission Australia is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Peer Advocate to join our team. As a Peer Advocate, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals living with severe and persistent mental health issues.
Key Responsibilities- Facilitate small group capacity building activities for clients
- Strengthen recovery-oriented approaches
- Support clients to prepare for NDIS
- Undertake initial contact with clients
- Engage participants to develop honest and trusting relationships
- Learn about each client's interests and relationships to create a tailored approach
- Utilize lived expertise skills to support clients with their recovery journey
- Facilitate small peer-led support groups
- Liaison with the team and stakeholders to provide appropriate supports for clients
- Support the creation of individual recovery and safety plans with clients and recovery coordinators
- Ensure documentation is completed and updated in line with Mission Australia protocols
- Personal lived experience of mental illness or psychological distress and professional experience working from this expertise
- Experience working collaboratively with lived experience, clinical, and non-clinical teams
- Minimum Certificate IV in mental health Peer Work or willingness to obtain
- Knowledge of community activities, programs, and networks in the local community
- Demonstrated ability to build effective partnerships
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, strong administrative skills, and proficient use of technology
- Demonstrated professional approach to the role, including maintaining professional boundaries
- Full driver's license with no restrictions
