We have multiple vacancies in Community Access and Supported Independent Living Houses in Darwin. We provide a person-centred care approach based on human rights.
- Develop strategies for preventing and managing challenging behaviours.
- Implement de-escalation techniques to prevent and diffuse concerning behaviours.
- Manage difficult situations where participants behave unpredictably or exhibit challenging behaviour.
- Implement positive approaches, safe communication, and effective ways of completing common tasks like personal care assistance.
- Support and chaperone outside the home environment, including transportation of clients.
- Assist with medication compliance, which includes dispensing prescription medication.
- Work collaboratively with healthcare teams and allied professionals.
Our Disability Support Workers deliver high-quality care and support to individuals with complex needs in our community access and supported independent living houses in Darwin. With a strong focus on human rights-based approach to person-centred care, you will work closely with our team to develop strategies for preventing and managing challenging behaviours, implement de-escalation techniques, and manage difficult situations.
As an experienced Disability Support Worker, you will have a client-focused attitude and approach. You will prioritise the participant's needs, bringing:
- Proven experience providing direct support to complex needs clients requiring high levels of care, behaviour management, and physical assistance with daily activities.
- Strong manual handling skills, including hoisting and wheelchair use.
- Practical knowledge working with individuals with concerning behaviours, as well as experience across both physical and mental disabilities.
- Basic administrative tasks – record daily progress notes and complete comprehensive handovers at the end of each shift.
- Ability to confidently report incidents or issues to management.
