About the Opportunity

Catholic Education is seeking a highly skilled English Language Support Specialist to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the education of newly arrived students who are learning English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D).

This permanent full-time position involves supporting these students in the early stages of their English language proficiency, facilitating their orientation to Australian schooling and helping them develop their language and literacy skills so they can participate in mainstream learning.

Accountabilities

The English Language Support Specialist will be accountable for:

  • Teaching, assessing and evaluating the progress of newly arrived EAL/D students using the ESL scales and EAL/D learning progression;
  • Working collaboratively with teachers to develop programs, practices, strategies and resources that support the English language and literacy learning of newly arrived EAL/D students;
  • Providing advice on appropriate modes of delivery that best meet the needs of newly arrived EAL/D students;
  • Providing expert advice to leadership teams, teachers and the wider system on matters related to specific newly arrived EAL/D students in accordance with Catholic Education guidelines;
  • Creating inclusive practice in school culture in relation to the effective implementation of personalised learning for newly arrived students;
  • Contributing to the leadership, design and delivery of professional learning with a focus on building teacher capacity to meet the needs of EAL/D students.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A tertiary qualification in Education;
  • Experience in EAL/D education;
  • Statements of Service;
  • A Working with Children Check clearance;
  • A sound knowledge of and commitment to our Catholic faith and mission in Catholic education.

Compensation Package

We offer a competitive salary range of $80,000 - $110,000 per annum, plus superannuation and other benefits.

Location

The successful applicant will be working in a dynamic and supportive environment, surrounded by experienced educators who share a passion for delivering high-quality education to all students. The location is not specified but it is in Australia.
