About the Role

The State of Washington's Department of Agriculture is seeking a highly skilled Weights and Measures Compliance Specialist Supervisor to join our team. As a key member of our Weights and Measures Program, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and fairness of commercial transactions throughout the state.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Management: Work closely with the Weights and Measures Program Manager to set program goals, develop enforcement strategies, and implement new processes.
  • Supervision: Supervise and mentor Weights and Measures Compliance Specialists, providing guidance and support to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
  • Inspection and Enforcement: Conduct complex inspections, investigate consumer complaints, and enforce state and federal laws and regulations to protect consumers and promote marketplace fairness.
  • Training and Development: Develop and deliver training programs for field inspectors, licensees, and other regulatory agencies to ensure they have the necessary knowledge and skills to perform their duties effectively.
  • Travel: Travel throughout the state to provide training and assistance to field inspectors, licensees, and other regulatory agencies.
Requirements
  • Experience: Three years of experience as a Weights and Measures Compliance Specialist, with one year of supervisory or lead work experience.
  • Education: An Associate's degree or higher in a field such as mathematics, chemistry, physics, engineering, electronics, criminal justice, business administration, or a related field.
  • Certification: Successful completion of National Conference on Weights and Measures professional certification exams appropriate to the inspections conducted by the program.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Education: A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a field such as mathematics, statistics, engineering, chemistry, physics, criminal justice, public administration, or a related field.
  • Experience: Experience installing, repairing, or calibrating scales and meters.
