Job Title: Waste & Environment Compliance Officer

Public Sector People is seeking a dedicated and experienced Waste & Environment Compliance Officer to join our client, a progressive local government authority committed to sustainability.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work on critical environmental projects that impact both the community and the environment. As the Waste & Environment Compliance Officer, you will be responsible for driving compliance and governance across the Waste and Environment portfolio, ensuring adherence to legislation and supporting the council's long-term sustainability goals.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and implement a strategic compliance program for the Waste and Environment portfolio, managing obligations under OHS legislation, Closed landfill environmental compliance, Chain of Responsibility, and the EP Act 2017.
  2. Create and maintain compliance-related materials such as plans, checklists, and procedures, ensuring all activities within the program are tracked and reported.
  3. Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure compliance programs are integrated effectively, and provide support across all related projects.
  4. Facilitate compliance processes for team members working in operational areas, guiding them through necessary procedures and requirements.
  5. Regularly review and update strategies to ensure all areas of compliance and governance are continuously improved.
  6. Respond to general enquiries regarding the program and provide guidance to internal and external parties.
  7. Represent the council at meetings, ensuring their interests are considered and appropriately reported back to the relevant teams.
