Job Title: Laboratory Technician

About the Job

This is a fixed term, full time position for 34 months available immediately. The role will support the technical team through provision of technical services that align with our service offerings.

The role will be largely laboratory-based, focused on aspects of molecular biology, but there may be a need to handle plants grown in growth facilities from time to time. You will also assist with tissue culture techniques used in plant synthetic biology experiments.

The position will help implement and streamline organisational processes, liaise with all staff to ensure the facilities run efficiently, and support other staff through engagement in experimental work beyond molecular biology from time to time.

We are part of a network of national facilities with nodes at various universities. Our purpose is to provide plant synthetic biology infrastructure and expertise to drive accelerated gains in agricultural productivity and develop new products through environmentally sustainable bio-manufacturing.

We provide plant synthetic biology services for agricultural crops, as well as for synthetic biology projects in 'model' plants. We offer infrastructure and expertise for research providers, government institutions, and industry partners as fee-for-service, providing incubation space for the start-up community and opportunities to collaborate.

Key Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate ability to promote organisational values of integrity, respect, collegiality, excellence and discovery, and commitment to positively comply with associated behaviour expectations.
  • Build effective relationships with diverse stakeholders through provision of technical support.
  • Have working knowledge of plant molecular biology techniques.
  • Have previous experience working in a PC2 facility.
  • Desirable- Understanding of gene editing and plant transformation processes.
Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants must have a degree in Science without subsequent relevant work experience or completion of an advanced diploma qualification in Laboratory Technology, and at least one year's subsequent relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
