About This Role

The Deputy Principal Legal Officer is a senior leadership position that offers the opportunity to grow into management while making a positive impact in women's access to justice.

This role provides high-quality legal advice, casework & representation in complex matters, supervises and mentors a team of solicitors, acts as Principal Legal Officer when required, leads community outreach and delivers legal education, and builds relationships with stakeholders across sectors.

Regular travel, including overnight stays, forms part of your outreach work. You will work on domestic, family & sexual violence, child protection, family law, and victims of crime compensation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert legal advice and representation in complex matters.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of 4 solicitors.
  • Act as Principal Legal Officer when required.
  • Lead community outreach and deliver legal education.
  • Build relationships with stakeholders across sectors.

Requirements:

  • Admission as a solicitor in Australia and eligibility for an NT Practising Certificate.
  • 4+ years post-admission experience in relevant practice areas.
  • Experience (or strong interest) in DFSV, family law or child protection.
  • Skills in trauma-informed, culturally safe practice, ideally with Aboriginal communities.
  • Leadership and mentoring experience within a legal practice.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ochre Card (WWCC).
  • National Police Clearance.
  • Manual Driver's Licence.
