Marine Mammal Ecologist Opportunity

The Department of Primary Industries and Regions is seeking a highly skilled Marine Mammal Ecologist to join our team in South Australia. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the sustainable management of natural resources and advance the prosperity and sustainability of South Australia's primary industries and regional communities.

About the Role

We have an opportunity for a Senior Research Scientist (Marine Mammal Ecologist) to be part of our SA Research & Development Institute Division within the Department of Primary Industries and Regions.

  • Acknowledge your work, health and safety obligations and our expectations when applying for a role.
  • Undertake emergency management training and participate in emergency preparedness, response and recovery activities required by government agencies.
  • Complete remote area first-aid training.

This role contributes to delivering high-quality science and research services to internal and external clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess, monitor and mitigate seafood and other marine industry interactions with marine protected species – particularly marine mammals.
  • Conduct population and ecological studies of marine protected species to inform conservation and management.
  • Inform the sustainable management of natural resources that underpin primary industries production.
Requirements
  • Possession of a current driver's licence and willingness to drive.
  • Out of hours work and inter/intrastate travel may be required.
  • Australian residency or current works permit is required.
