Job Overview

The Research Librarian role presents a unique opportunity to work within a specialized research library, overseeing the acquisition of collection items and delivering tailored information services to staff and library patrons.

Main Responsibilities

  • Lead a knowledgeable team in the daily operations of our library, ensuring seamless service delivery and exceptional customer interaction.
  • Develop and implement strategies for acquiring suitable serials, new books, rare books, and other paper collection items, adhering to relevant public sector legislation, policy, and guidelines.
  • Deliver high-quality customer service to the general public, professional researchers, and internal stakeholders while managing competing demands and deadlines.

Key Requirements

  • Professional membership of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) or equivalent tertiary qualifications and experience.
  • Direct provision of information and reference services to patrons, with knowledge of a wide range of information sources, both print and electronic.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills, with proven ability to work effectively individually or as part of a team.
  • Able to act as the public face for an organization, demonstrating superior written and verbal communication, negotiation, and training skills.
  • Familiarity with global information environment developments, including online service provision, client expectations, and web metrics within a library environment.
