About the Position:

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Cost Control Specialist to support our large-scale energy projects. This is a dynamic work environment where you will play a key role in managing costs, forecasting, and budget control while supporting project teams and mentoring junior staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide clear and actionable cost insights for stakeholders and project teams by translating complex data into understandable information.
  • Enhance and streamline cost management tools, processes, and procedures to ensure effective financial oversight.
  • Support and guide junior cost control staff through mentorship and guidance.
  • Collaborate with project managers and budget holders to ensure accurate and timely cost reporting.
  • Coordinate with engineering teams to identify and address discrepancies and contribute to risk mitigation strategies.
  • Monitor expenses, analyze variances, and present findings to relevant stakeholders.
  • Forecast costs for project line items in consultation with project teams.
  • Assess potential variations and claims from subcontractors and vendors.
  • Support ad hoc cost analyses and participate in project review meetings as required.
  • Act as a liaison between engineering, accounts, and project teams to ensure financial clarity and transparency.
  • Recommend process improvements for more effective cost management.
  • Develop and maintain historical cost databases for future reference.
  • Solve complex issues using both technical expertise and business acumen.
  • Communicate effectively across all levels of the organization, adapting messaging to suit diverse audiences.

About You:

Our ideal candidate has several years of experience in the cost control function within the Oil & Gas or related industries, preferably on international, large-scale projects with progressively increasing responsibilities, including team leadership.

A background in Quantity Surveying is highly regarded, but not essential. The successful candidate should have demonstrated expertise in cost control with fully developed technical competencies, be capable of establishing and enhancing standards, procedures, and processes, and have experience in developing project budgets aligned with standardised structures.

Strong analytical skills, proficient in producing accurate cost forecasts to support project management objectives, performing comprehensive variance analysis, including quantities, costs, labor hours, and productivity metrics, and ensuring the accuracy and quality of deliverables produced by junior team members are essential.

A strong understanding of estimating methodologies and practices, proficient in reviewing and refining estimates for changes in project scope or trends, and thorough knowledge of Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) requirements across all project phases are necessary.
