About the Role

The Queensland LGBTQIA+ Alliance is seeking a visionary leader to establish and grow the organisation as an independent entity.

As the founding Chief Executive Officer, you will lead the development of governance structures, operational systems, and membership pathways, positioning the Alliance as a central point for government collaboration and community representation.

You will foster community connections across Queensland, advocate for the needs and rights of diverse and geographically spread LGBTQIA+ communities, and represent the Alliance to government, key sector stakeholders, media, and the broader public.

Your unwavering commitment to cultural safety and focus on inclusiveness and intersectionality will be pivotal in developing sector capacity initiatives, building collective capacity across Alliance members, and enhancing the Alliance's public profile and communications strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic plans to establish the Alliance as an independent entity
  • Foster partnerships with government, sector stakeholders, and community organisations to advance the interests of LGBTQIA+ communities
  • Represent the Alliance at state and national levels, advocating for equitable policies and culturally safe practices
  • Lead the development of governance structures, operational systems, and membership pathways to support the growth and sustainability of the Alliance

Requirements

  • Being an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and LGBTQIA+ community member is essential for this role
  • Strong leadership experience within LGBTQIA+ or peer-led organisations, with a deep understanding of intersectional issues affecting LGBTQIA+ communities in Queensland
  • Excellent political astuteness, advocacy skills, and relationship-building abilities
  • Commitment to cultural safety, inclusivity, and engagement of diverse LGBTQIA+ identities across urban, regional, and remote areas

Salary: $120,000 - $150,000 per annum
