Job Title: Legal Counsel and Company Secretary

CatholicCare Sydney seeks a highly skilled Legal Counsel and Company Secretary to provide expert legal and governance advice.

About the Role
  • Provide Strategic Legal Advice: Offer timely, insightful legal counsel to the Board, Chief Executive Officer, and executive leadership on diverse areas including social services, aged care, employment, contract law, WHS, privacy, and more.
  • Interpret Complex Legislation: Apply deep knowledge of employment law, dispute resolution, and the Aged Care Act to guide CatholicCare's decisions and ensure compliance in a highly regulated environment.
  • Regulatory Representation: Represent CatholicCare before the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission and other external regulatory bodies, demonstrating professionalism, strategic clarity, and empathy.
  • Serve as Company Secretary & Governance Advisor: Support the Audit and Risk Committee in fostering robust governance, ensuring best practice and integrity throughout.
  • Manage Litigation & Risk: Oversee all legal risk and liability matters—drafting and responding to letters of demand, managing small claims and alternative dispute resolution, and orchestrating external counsel and insurance claims as needed.
Responsibilities

As a Legal Counsel and Company Secretary, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing strategic legal counsel to the Board, CEO, and executive leadership on various areas of law.
  • Interpreting complex legislation and applying deep knowledge of employment law, dispute resolution, and the Aged Care Act.
  • Representing CatholicCare before external regulatory bodies, demonstrating professionalism and strategic clarity.
  • Serving as a company secretary and governance advisor, supporting the Audit and Risk Committee.
  • Managing litigation and risk, overseeing legal risk and liability matters, and orchestrating external counsel and insurance claims as needed.
