Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled professional to join our team as a Program Facilitator. The successful candidate will have a passion for supporting the holistic development of students through animal-assisted interventions.

The role involves delivering a planned and structured Animal Assisted Educational (AAE) intervention with specific academic and educational goals, alongside trained therapy dogs. This is an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact on student engagement, social and emotional wellbeing, and learner confidence.

As a Program Facilitator, you will work closely with children and young people who may be disengaged or at risk of disengaging from education. You will provide direct support to these students, using your expertise in animal-assisted therapies to promote their learning and development.

This is a part-time fixed-term position, based in Bendigo within our MacKillop Education and Engagement Programs/Paw Pals Program. The successful candidate will report to the Paw Pals Operations Coordinator.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To deliver AAE interventions to students, working closely with trained therapy dogs;
  • To develop and implement programs that meet the needs of students, focusing on building engagement, social and emotional wellbeing, and learner confidence;
  • To collaborate with educators and other professionals to ensure a comprehensive approach to student support;
  • To maintain accurate records and reports related to program delivery and student progress;

Required Skills and Qualifications:

This role requires:

  • A relevant qualification and experience in working with animal-assisted therapies;
  • Experience working with children and young people who may be disengaged or at risk of disengaging from education;
  • A knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and values, and an awareness of the current issues faced by Aboriginal children, young people, and their families;
  • A valid and current driver's licence; and
  • Satisfactory criminal history check.
