Our organization seeks skilled professionals to support procurement and contracting policy within a defence environment. Successful candidates will require a strong understanding of these areas.
The RoleOur team collaborates with government agencies to develop policies ensuring Defence procurement practices are compliant with Commonwealth legislation, frameworks, and guidelines. We own and manage the Defence Commercial Framework, which is regularly updated to inform Defence officials about relevant procurement policy. Our goal is to ensure Defence remains legislatively compliant in its mission to protect Australia and advance its strategic interests.
Concurrently, our team works with Senior Executives to support the transformation of Defence into its future state.
Procurement and Contracting Expertise
Our team leads the Procurement and Contracting Job Family, playing a critical role in enhancing commercial acumen and ensuring Defence remains compliant during procurement and contracting activities. We own learning and development courses and manage initiatives to uplift the commercial expertise of Defence officials. Regular liaisons take place with government agencies such as Department of Finance, CASG Learning & Development, CASG Entry level Programs, and Defence People Group to carry out our function and maintain consistency across job families.
Supporting strategic direction for recruitment and retention, our team also supports management and coordination of entry-level programs on behalf of the Commercial Division. This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known as the Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary payable under the Defence Enterprise Agreement (DEA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications critical to Defence capability.

As a member of our team, you will:
- Develop and implement policy consistent with legislation and Commonwealth guidance;
- Build productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, actively participating in team and group activities to achieve agreed outcomes;
- Lead the management of either the Procurement Policy or Commercial Professionalisation inbox;
- Review existing training courses to ensure they meet needs;
- Provide timely and accurate commercial advice on complex policy issues tailored to stakeholder requirements;
- Identify areas to improve policy, guidance processes, or professionalisation, and demonstrate benefits and rationale for change.
