Legal Advisor Role

The role involves providing high-quality legal advice and services to the Council, Executive and staff on a wide range of contractual, property and administrative legal matters.

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a range of legal documents, including contracts, agreements, and leases.
  • Keep abreast of relevant legislation and provide advice on changes and their implications, as they affect the Council.
  • Manage legal risks and develop risk management strategies to ensure compliance with legal obligations.
About You

To be successful in this role you will have the following:

  • Bachelor of Law degree from a recognised university and admission to practice as a lawyer in Victoria with a minimum of two years post admission experience.
  • Experience in interpreting legal matters in a Local Government context.
  • Exposure to a minimum of two of the following areas: Property law, contracts, procurement, administrative law or prosecutions in a local government setting.

You will also have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyse legal issues and provide practical solutions. Excellent communication skills are required, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
