Position Overview

Clear Ventures is in search of an exceptional Senior Mechanical Design Lead to become a vital part of our forward-thinking engineering team, focused on developing innovative motorcycle helmet technology. This role offers a hybrid work environment, balancing remote work with collaboration at our office, ensuring close interaction with a talented team dedicated to engineering excellence.

In this position, you will engage from the initial phases of product development, leveraging your extensive engineering expertise in concept ideation, feasibility assessments, prototype creation, engineering validation, and design for manufacturability.

While this role does not involve direct management of other engineers, it necessitates a strong technical leadership presence, overseeing vendor relationships and project management independently. You will collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders to produce all essential documentation and testing protocols to ensure products meet established specifications. Additionally, you will be responsible for ensuring that product features align with cost, timeline, reliability, thermal, and regulatory/safety objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the mechanical architecture, development, and analysis for new product initiatives.
  • Oversee the comprehensive design, analysis, documentation, and functional validation of mechanical components and assemblies.
  • Conduct mechanical engineering evaluations and tests to confirm the robustness and performance of new products.
  • Collaborate with various teams, including partners, industrial design, product development management, manufacturing, operations, and quality assurance, to ensure successful product development and launch.
  • Contribute to the creation of mechanical tooling and production part qualifications, including manufacturing process capabilities and material certifications.
  • Provide mentorship and support to mechanical and cross-functional team members.
  • Utilize advanced tools to devise innovative mechanical solutions for complex challenges.

Desired Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 12+ years of relevant experience in mechanical and product design development.
  • Strong understanding of Lean and Agile methodologies for hardware products.
  • Experience in a highly regulated industry.
  • Proficient in CAD modeling tools.
  • Extensive experience with injection molded plastic design.
  • Experience with PCB/FPC design and collaboration with electrical engineering teams.
  • Effective management of engineering projects with internal and external partners.
  • Strong knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, along with statistical tolerance analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying ideas through spoken, written, and visual means.
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a productive manner.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration.
  • Willingness to travel internationally.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Passion for automotive engineering.
  • Expertise in designing manufacturable plastic components with complex geometries.
  • Familiarity with Siemens NX and Teamcenter.
  • Experience with FEA, CDM, and thermal simulations.
  • Background in wearable technology, particularly head-mounted devices.
  • Experience with acoustic products.
  • Knowledge of designing products incorporating carbon fiber and fabrics.
