National Bridge Lead

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Bridge Engineer to lead our bridge engineering capability across Australia.

The successful candidate will provide support to the Regional Director for Highways & Bridges and be responsible for supervising a group of bridge engineers and designers.

This role involves providing people leadership, raising bridge knowledge and expertise across the group, as well as being involved in hiring and expanding the team.

You will also be the key interface with contractors and state government, developing new business, maintaining and nurturing existing client relationships, liaising with other business sector leaders and teams within the organization, and raising the profile of the bridge engineering offering across the market.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Planning, organizing, and leading project teams in the delivery, design, and documentation of project requirements;
  • Leading contract negotiations including variations, claims and commercial disputes, and ensuring fulfilment of contract negotiations;
  • Project management and technical leadership across various multi-disciplined projects;
  • Organizing business development and strategic initiatives, including preparation of proposals;
  • Maintaining high technical standards, ensuring work is completed within agreed budgets and timeframes, and complying with business systems;
  • Developing and maintaining client relationships;
  • Mentoring and developing technical staff;
  • Providing vision and leadership to team members;
  • Hiring and expanding the team;
  • Liaising with other business sectors leaders within and outside of the organization; and,
  • Approving employee time, expenses and other management functions needed for day-to-day operations.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A relevant degree in civil engineering;
  • Extensive industry experience as a Bridge Engineer recognized by clients at state level;
  • Assisting other staff in team situations and actively sharing technical knowledge and expertise;
  • Understanding of design and analysis of bridges and civil structures for public and private infrastructure;
  • Flexibility in attitude and ability to both lead or direct a group of technical staff;
  • Solid knowledge of Australian Standards in current engineering and construction principles, methods and practices; in particular for TMR, Vicroads, TfNSW and with Australian Standards;
  • A track record of delivering complex multidisciplinary projects on time and to budget.
  • Professional Engineer registered with Engineers Australia or other relevant country registration; RPEV, CPEng and RPEQ highly desirable
  • Experience and interest in business development initiatives, and in the development and maintenance of client relations;
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with all levels of staff and clients (both written and orally);
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills in complex and changing environments.
