Job Title: Associate Director

Job Summary:

The University of Newcastle is seeking an experienced Associate Director to lead the financial accounting functions across the University and its controlled entities. As a trusted advisor, you will provide financial insights to the Chief Financial Officer, senior executives, and Council, aiding critical decision-making processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting: Own the Annual Financial Reporting process, external audit, tax compliance, banking functions, accounts receivable, and fixed asset accounting.
  • Financial Analysis: Provide insightful analysis and presentation of financial statements and information.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and develop a high-performing team, promoting a culture of collaboration and a commitment to provide great support to University stakeholders.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements that enhance financial operations.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build relationships with key internal stakeholders and external service providers.

Requirements:

  • Qualifications: A degree in accounting, business, or equivalent, along with postgraduate qualifications and professional membership (CPA, ACCA, or CAANZ).
  • Experience: Extensive management experience in financial accounting, taxation, compliance, and internal controls within a large and complex organization.
  • Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and communication skills, with experience managing and motivating teams.
  • Business Acumen: Demonstrated capability as a trusted business advisor.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced spreadsheet skills (Microsoft Excel) and proficiency in Office tools like Outlook, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
  • Culture: A commitment to promoting a safe, healthy, and respectful workplace culture.
