ASC is a leading provider of naval solutions, and we are currently seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Systems Design Engineer to join our team. In this senior role, you will play a key part in designing and specifying HVAC and auxiliary systems for our Collins Class submarines.

About the Opportunity

\

The successful applicant will have experience in mechanical design and support the delivery of major projects within the Life of Type Extension (LOTE) Program. You will work closely with our Mechanical Engineering Manager and be responsible for designing and specifying HVAC and/or auxiliary systems for our Collins Class submarines. This will involve performing complex calculations to determine heating and cooling requirements, as well as preparing engineering documentation such as specifications, sketches, test procedures, and engineering reports.

Responsibilities

  • Design and specify HVAC and/or auxiliary systems for our Collins Class submarines;\
  • Perform complex calculations to determine heating and cooling requirements;\
  • Prepare engineering documentation, including specifications, sketches, test procedures, and engineering reports;\
  • Review and approval of engineering artefacts;\
  • Provide technical direction throughout a mechanical design project's lifecycle;\
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver projects on time and within budget;\
  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and effectiveness;\
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation and knowledge base;\
  • Participate in training and development activities to stay up-to-date with industry trends and technologies;\
  • Contribute to the development of the company's technical strategy and vision.\
  • Work unsupervised and lead a multi-disciplined team of engineers and technical personnel.\
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards, regulations, and company policies.\
  • Analyzing problems and developing solutions.\
  • Maintain accurate records and files related to designs, specifications, and other documents.\
  • Prepare and present progress reports to stakeholders.\
  • Other duties as assigned by management.\
  • To provide leadership and guidance to junior engineers and technicians.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • \
  • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or similar;\
  • Senior level experience in complex mechanical programs;\
  • Systems engineering principles and their application in the design lifecycle;\
  • Able to prepare well-structured and concise reports on progress of work to various stakeholders;\
  • Demonstrated analytical skills and technical knowledge in engineering;\
  • Experience working within a technical design role focused on HVAC, cooling, fluid transfer, heat calculations, air systems;\
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines;\
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills;\
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams;\
  • Excellent problem-solving skills;\
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously;\
  • Proficient in using computer-aided design software, such as Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks.\
  • Certifications or professional membership in relevant organizations (e.g., Engineers Australia).\

Salary and Benefits

\

We offer a competitive salary package including superannuation benefits for eligible employees. The estimated annual salary range for this position is $120,000-$150,000 AUD depending on experience. The actual salary offered will be based on your individual qualifications and experience.
