About this Role

As a Correctional Officer, you will oversee the supervision and care of inmates within a correctional facility.

  • Maintain a safe and secure environment by implementing security protocols and ensuring staff compliance.
  • Support rehabilitation efforts through engagement in education and programs, promoting positive relationships among inmates, staff, and stakeholders.
  • Conduct thorough searches, respond to incidents, and document events accurately according to established policies and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with inmates and colleagues, fostering an atmosphere of respect and dignity.
  • Cultivate a culturally sensitive environment, acknowledging and respecting diversity among inmates and staff.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you must possess:

  • A Certificate III in Correctional Practice or be willing to obtain it within the first year of employment.
  • Strong communication skills for building rapport and influencing others.
  • The ability to remain calm under pressure and handle challenging situations professionally.
  • Commitment to working in a culturally sensitive environment.
  • Physical fitness to meet the demands of the role, including control and restraint requirements.
  • A valid driver's license.

Training and Development Opportunities

A comprehensive 11-week training program is provided, commencing on April 28th. Experienced correctional officers may have their course duration adjusted based on their level of expertise.
