About the Role

We are seeking a strategic and innovative leader to join our team as the Program Director of the Australia Telescope National Facility. As a key member of our Space and Astronomy research unit, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the ATNF and will lead and build cohesion within the facility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage a team of researchers and engineers to deliver high-quality research and innovation in radio astronomy
  • Develop and manage a sustainable portfolio of R&D projects consistent with the ATNF's future direction
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to develop and implement strategies to achieve the ATNF's strategic objectives
  • Employ your superior collaboration and communication skills to balance delivering ATNF's strategic objectives with CSIRO's organisational-wide priorities and outcomes
Requirements
  • PhD (or an equivalent combination of qualifications and research experience) in a relevant science or technology field, such as astrophysics and/or radio astronomy
  • Managerial qualifications or significant relevant scientific leadership experience
  • Proven ability to translate strategy into implementation, organisational alignment and management of change
  • Experience in leading a high-performance culture in a research environment/organisation
  • Established international reputation within Radio Astronomy
  • Experience with project and financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, resource management, and managing significant funding streams or programs
  • Ability to engage with a broad range of stakeholders and build strategic collaborations
  • Demonstrated record of adherence to professional ethics and conduct, including professional and respectful workplace behaviour
  • Values aligned to CSIRO's values
  • Willingness and ability to travel interstate and internationally, as required
