About the Role

The Australian Public Service (APS) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the position of Director of International Engagement within the Defence Capability Acquisition & Sustainment Group (CASG).

This is an exciting opportunity for a strategic leader to join our team and contribute to the advancement of Australia's international relationships in support of capability delivery aligned to National Defence objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership and guidance to the International Engagement and Foreign Military Sales Branch, ensuring effective and efficient capability delivery in collaboration with Australia's international acquisition and sustainment partners.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with international partners, including the United States, to advance capability delivery and defence industrial policy objectives.
  • Develop and implement workforce management initiatives that drive business outcomes, including the development of a high-performing team responsible for planning and supporting key international activities for CASG.
  • Provide support to Ministers, Deputy Secretary (DEPSEC) CASG, and Delivery Managers in their interactions with counterparts, ensuring Australian representatives are suitably briefed and well-informed on national interests, priorities, and sensitivities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to advance CASG's international relationships and capability delivery objectives.
Requirements
  • Strong understanding of Defence strategy and the ability to manage international relationships.
  • Strong management skills, with the ability to advance multiple portfolios simultaneously.
  • Ability to undertake representational roles on behalf of CASG and Defence.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, write, and interpret policy and applicable legislation.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement workforce management and initiatives that drive business outcomes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills at the strategic level.
